I refer to a small item that appeared in Times of Malta (July 18) under the title ‘Spinola tidy-up’.

I have no doubt in my mind who was behind it. It is crystal clear that one particular soul in St Julian’s, who owns several restaurants in Spinola Bay, is craving plaudits or some kind of recognition for a so-called ‘noble act’ on his part.

I do not believe I have ever seen this kind of article in any paper after any other event carried out at Xatt is-Sajjieda. Clearly, this individual has an agenda, which we all know too well and highly oppose.

Massive Promotions, the organiser of the World Cup screening at Spinola Bay, in Xatt is-Sajjieda, did an excellent job through and through. We hosted the area for one whole month and hired cleaning services as well as security throughout the entire event.

It is common decency to treat the area with the respect it deserves and that is exactly what we did. So much so, that the mayor of St Julian’s himself visited the area daily to ensure that the upkeep of the area was retained and he confirmed that it was. Similarly, local fishermen had words of praise for our efforts in this respect.

We cannot fathom why one person is so willing to try and spoil the fun for both locals and tourists alike. Those who attended and watched the games praised both the organisation and the venue.

There is no better spot on the island where one can broadcast these major football events than this one. The World Cup is followed by billions of fans and watched in the heart of major cities around the world. Malta should and will be no exception to this norm.
