Former European Commissioner John Dalli has asked the Speaker of the House to give him the opportunity to question Giovanni Kessler, Director-General of Olaf, the EU anti-fraud agency when he is called to testify before the Privileges Committee.

Dr Kessler is expected to give evidence before the committee, which is considering a breach of privilege raised by the Prime Minister against the Leader of the Opposition.

Dr Muscat felt aggrieved by claims by the Opposition leader that there had been political interference in the police investigation of allegations against Mr Dalli.

The Speaker said he had received a long letter from Mr Dalli in which he asked to be able to participate in the committee meeting when Dr Kessler gave evidence. He also requested that Dr Kessler should submit a number of documents.

The Speaker said Dr Kessler was available to appear before the committee on a number of dates in October.

The sitting is still in progress.
