The urgent meeting called by the Council of the Aquatic Sport Association (ASA), originally scheduled to take place tomorrow, has been brought forward to this evening, the Executive Committee of the local governing body of swimsport announced yesterday.

On Friday night, the ASA suspended all competitions in the wake of the incidents that marred the closing stages of the derby between Neptunes Grimaldi Lines and Sliema Frank Salt Real Estate at the National Pool.

The match ended 10-10.

It was not the first time in the last 10 days that a senior waterpolo game had been tarnished by protests and verbal exchanges, prompting the ASA to take the unusual step of stopping all competitions in order to assess the situation.

However, the ASA Executive has softened its position vis-à-vis the age-group and women’s waterpolo championships which will resume today as originally planned.
