Diane Borg finished sixth in her 100m heat as the track and field events got underway at Hampden Park yesterday.

The Maltese was classified behind Belize’s Kaina Martinez, in fifth place, after both clocked 12.12 seconds,

As expected, the heat was won by Jamaican star Veronica Campbell-Brown who dashed home in 11.29 seconds.

Seven runners took part in the first 100m heat with Kenya’s Milcen Ndoro finishing behind Borg in 12.18 seconds.

At Kelvingrove Green, Leonard Callus launched his commitments in the men’s singles event with a 21-18 loss to Jersey’s Malcolm de Sousa yesterday evening.

Today, Brian Galea will take part in the qualification round of the trap competition.

Rebecca Sarè is due to figure in the triple jump qualifiers while the women’s artistic gymnastics team also make their Commonwealth bow today.
