The selfish cabin cruiser owners who spent Saturday and Sunday close to the swimming zone in St Julian’s not only threw their melon seeds and other fruit remains into the area reserved for bathers but also discharged oil in this area. While on the subject, why has a swimmers’ zone not been enforced at Mistra Bay, which could easily include a corridor for boats to reach the slipway?

In the way

It is remarkable how many times local councils in various areas flout laws and regulations with impunity. It appears that the Żebbuġ council thinks its patron saint’s festa should take precedence over all considerations, including making sure that pavements offer easy access to wheelchair-bound citizens. Either that or it’s truly a case, as some have suggested, that we elect the councillors that we deserve…

What customer service?

A Vodofone subscriber who had her service suspended because of some arrears was promised it would be restored shortly after having settled her bills. However, it took 48 hours and numerous calls later before the line became operational again.

Want not, waste not

Educational campaigns are being held worldwide to raise awareness about wastage of food. Homes for the elderly and hospitals in this tiny island should lead by example and not put excessive, sometimes inedible, food on the plates that then, of course, goes to waste.

Rubbish tip

Waste has been accumulating next to a building site in Xemxija where not a single skip is in sight. Complaints must have reached the developer because a wall is now being built in the area to hide the rubbish.

Presidential bookends

Employees at the Presidential Palace have come up with a bright idea on how to hold the vent flow of a portable air-conditioner in place. They wedged it in between two dictionaries. It might be ‘resourceful’ but it certainly does not leave a good impression on visitors.
