Eight French tourists were taken to hospital late on Saturday night after a luxury Cranchi cabin cruiser they were on hit a reef and began to sink off Sliema.

The incident was reported at about 10pm. Members of the Armed Forces of Malta and police were dispatched to the area and people on a nearby boat provided first aid.

Those on board were taken to hospital. One was kept for observation because of head injuries and another was treated for fractures.
