Vodafone’s Outbound team headed to Fra Diego Home in Ħamrun to help refurbish a flat that will enable the home to welcome more children needing shelter.

The Vodafone Malta Foundation also presented a donation to help with the flat’s refburbishment.

The works consisted of the building of six cubicles with bathroom facilities for teenagers living at Fra Diego Home, with the main aim of helping children and young people obtain the privacy they so much yearn for.

“Throughout the day, we could understand and appreciate how the home extends its support to children experiencing some form of deprivation or abuse and who, as a consequence, are exposed to the risk of various aspects of poverty and social exclusion,” said James Vidal, supervisor at Vodafone’s call centre.

“It was a day to remember, the whole team bonded. We are hopeful that through our help and the funds presented by the foundation, the children will get some moments of respite in their troubled lives.”

The Outbound team was divided into teams, each having different tasks, including cleaning the children’s rooms, the kitchen and the living room and playing with the children. The flat will now welcome children on the waiting list to find a shelter at the home.

Fra Diego Home shelters children coming from families with diverse needs, such as those who suffered some form of abuse, experienced domestic violence or had parents suffering from mental problems and disorders.

The home also runs a day-care centre that caters for children aged one to 10. Moreover, it hosts elderly women who have been in care since childhood.

Another wing of the home is being renovated to host teenage girls who have done their time there and have nowhere to go.
