This month we focus on three new sheds that were erected at enormous expense for the storage of salt at Salini. Late in April large areas of the wooden planks that covered the roofs and sides were ripped off, because leaks had been discovered, we were told. Sometime in May, with gay Mediterranean abandon, the workers all vanished, leaving the sheds in a somewhat unusual state. The pans, which should have been used this year, are in a state of great unhappiness. The point of this little tale is that as I write we may well experience the first heavy storm sometime in the latter part of August. Without adequate roofing and walls, the Salini sheds will soon look as dilapidated as the ones they replaced.
