I hope that anybody who read Anna Mallia’s letter published in The Sunday Times of Malta (July 20) was shocked.

How dare a lawyer claim that the courts in any country should protect their own nationals? A court should be impartial, which is not exactly what can be said about the courts in Malta, however not as Dr Mallia claims.

Maybe that person ought to be reminded of the basics of law: “a magistrate shall take into account both prosecution and defence evidence with the sole purpose of establishing the truth.”
