I refer to the letter by Bernice Bartolo (The Sunday Times of Malta, July 20), in which she claimed that bus route 101 does not make sense because Santa Maria Estate residents probably do not use buses. Speaking with authority does not reflect the needs of the tourism sector where she works.

She forgets that a number of families live in boathouses, that Santa Maria residents have many relatives and friends who pay regular visits and attend university and Mcast.

None of these groups may own cars. Above all, hordes of tourists live in furnished accommodation and trek uphill even for shopping.

There are also insinuations of class distinction between the elite and the have-nots.

Unconsciously perhaps, her letter is too destructive. For us, it is a pity that route 101 runs only on the hour.
