Mosta have finalised deals to sign Karl Pulo and Kurt Magro on loan from Tarxien Rainbows and Valletta respectively.

Pulo has decided to move after seeing out his three-year contract with the Rainbows who have revamped their squad in the close season.

The former Malta Under-21 winger came through the youth ranks of Pieta Hotspurs and had a spell with Birkirkara before joining Tarxien.

This will be his first stint with Mosta while Magro is bracing himself for his second spell with the Premier League club.

Magro had been in limbo for most of the last three months as he was not part of Valletta’s plans for next season but the champions initially demanded that any suitors for the player pay the full transfer fee according to the Malta FA parameters.

Frustrated by the uncertainty over his future, Magro had, at one point, announced that the situation had forced him to walk away from the game but Valletta eventually softened their stance and accepted Mosta’s proposal to take the lanky midfielder on a season-long loan deal.

Magro expressed his relief that an agreement for his loan move to Mosta has been reached.

“Thanks to everybody who was involved in this transfer after the worse three months of my career,” Magro wrote on his Facebook page.

Magro, who turned out for Balzan in the second half of last season, has already started training with Mosta, also featuring for the team in their 3-2 win over Floriana in The Convenience Shop Malta Summer Cup on Thursday.

Mosta, buoyed by their fourth-place finish last season, have been very active in the close season, signing striker Daniel Mariano Bueno on loan from Tarxien and his Brazilian compatriot Pedrinho who spent the second half of last season with Balzan. They have also extended Dyson Falzon’s loan for another term.

Valletta have reportedly shown an interest in signing Mosta captain Manolito Micallef on a season-long loan but their initial approach was rejected out of hand by the Blues.

Another Mosta player who is at the centre of transfer speculation is Italian striker Gianmarco Piccioni, son of club coach Enrico Piccioni.

Sources told Sunday Times of Malta yesterday that Birkirkara are keen on Piccioni but no offer was made.

Elsewhere, Sliema Wanderers and Hibernians are still engaged in talks over a swap deal involving goalkeepers Henry Bonello and Daniel Balzan.

It is understood that the two Premier League clubs are likely to exchange the two players on loan for one season.

Birkirkara are also believed to be monitoring the situation closely amid reports of interest in Bonello.
