The celebration of marriage built in accordance with the law of God (natural law) whereby a man and a woman promise their exclusive love for one another as long as both of them are alive, for their own good and for the good of the children they beget, and blessed by the Church as the representative of God, is a source of joy for me and for many in Malta.
Referring to Minister Helena Dalli’s article, ‘Proudest pride week’ (July 18), I must point out that the legal framework that the Maltese Parliament has given to civil unions is not in conformity with the natural law. This is because the new law regulating civil unions extends the union of people who want to get married not only to a man and a female, as the natural law prescribes, but also to people of the same sex (not in accordance with the natural law).
As a result of this provision, the new law lacks the necessary foundation for its existence.
People who yearned for the new law about civil unions may have solved several problems concerning social status, social services and inheritance, besides that they are more happy, but still they do not have to be proud of their new way of life until they discover the real nature of marriage in the law of God.
