May I suggest to Henry Galea (‘The bells of Birkirkara’, July 23) that he buy himself a reliable pair of ear plugs (I use these to prevent infection from chlorine), which I find very efficient, even preventing me from hearing the music of birds singing melodically in my garden, and let the Karkarisi enjoy the beautiful chimes of their bells, especially the famous qampiena il-kbira (the big bell), their pride and joy for generations.
