I understand that most towns and villages need to enjoy their traditional festa and that it is also part of our heritage. I also understand that some people await their local festa with great enthusiasm. Also that most festas require the blocking of certain roads and side streets. This still causes a slight inconvenience to a certain number of people in a restricted area, which is bad enough, but live and let live, as we say.

However, to block arterial main roads like the Regional Road and other important streets attached to it, as well as the Ta’ Xbiex and Sliema side at the same time, for the Msida feast last weekend was far too much.

It is simply out of proportion that for a couple of thousand people to celebrate their feast, an estimated 50,000 people have to be inconvenienced by anything from 30 to 60 minutes during the peak travelling time, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. I myself experienced a 40- minute delay and at least 60 other people I know also experienced the same sort of delays.

This is definitely out of proportion.

Surely, the authorities concerned can find a solution for next year without blocking the Regional Road, avoiding the chaos and the spoiling of weddings, parties, theatre and other special occasions.

We await a reply with enthusiasm.
