Argentine striker Facundo Ferreira has become the second South American player to rejoin Shakhtar Donetsk after initially refusing to return to Ukraine because of security fears.

Ferreira and Brazilian team-mate Fred were among six players who stayed in France after a friendly against Lyon on Saturday after a Malaysian Airlines plane was shot down last week by missiles in eastern Ukraine, killing all 298 people on board.

The Ukrainian champions have since moved their headquarters from the strife-torn city of Donetsk to Kiev, with home games to be played in the Western city of Lviv.

Lampard coy over England future

Former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard will make a decision over his England future after completing his move to New York City FC on a two-year deal.

Lampard has made 106 England appearances, scoring 29 goals, and was in Roy Hodgson’s 23-man World Cup squad.

“I’ve had a bit of time after the World Cup which was obviously a huge disappointment,” Lampard said.

“I now need to think about England and about what I want to do with that. I haven’t got a complete answer, but now I know where I’ll be playing my football next year I can make that decision.”

Gamberini makes Chievo switch

Chievo have signed defender Alessandro Gamberini from Napoli on a two-year deal.

Gamberini admitted he was particularly keen to renew his working relationship with close friend and fellow centre-back Dario Dainelli, his team-mate at Fiorentina for five years.

He told chievoverona.it: “Chievo flattered me, showing me a lot of love, and so I agreed to wear this shirt with a lot of enthusiasm.

“I have a special relationship with Dario Dainelli that goes beyond football. There is respect and true friendship between us and I’m happy to have him as a team-mate again.”

Larsson follows father to Helsingborg

Striker Jordan Larsson, son of former Sweden international Henrik, is following his father’s footsteps by moving from lower- league Hogaborg to Helsingborg, just as his dad did 22 years ago, the club said.

Henrik Larsson made his name at Helsingborg before embarking on a professional career during which he won a host of trophies at Celtic and Barcelona before returning at the end of his career and now his 17-year-old son is taking a similar path.

“Helsingborg is a fantastic club, hopefully I can develop into a very good player here, and I believe I can,” Jordan Larsson told Helsingborg’s website.

Drogba completes Chelsea return

Didier Drogba will begin his second spell at Chelsea next season after agreeing a one-year deal with Jose Mourinho’s side.

The 36-year-old striker and Blues favourite returns to Stamford Bridge after leaving in 2012 for stints at Shanghai Shenhua and Galatasaray.

“It was an easy decision – I couldn’t turn down the opportunity to work with Jose Mourinho again,” Drogba told reporters yesterday.

“Everyone knows the special relationship I have with this club and it has always felt like home to me.”

Marseille boycott Stade Velodrome

Marseille will not play their opening home game of the Ligue 1 season at the Stade Velodrome after a fall-out with the local authorities.

OM have failed to reach an agreement with officials in Marseille over rent on the stadium and the opening home fixture against Montpellier on August 17 will now be played at the Stade de la Mosson.

“After the most recent negotiations to reach an agreement on the rental tariff of the Stade Velodrome broke down with the Marseille town hall, the Olympique de Marseille directors announce that OM will not play in Marseille,” read a statement on the club’s official website.

Mangala ‘signs’ for Man. City in video

A leaked video on Manchester City’s website appears to show the club signing long-term target Eliaquim Mangala from Porto.

No official announcement has been made by the Eastlands outfit, but a video clip, which has since been removed from the site, shows the 23-year-old defender having a medical.

The France international said: “I am here to help the team win titles, the league, the cup and the Champions League.

“I am ambitious and this is why I am here.”

He added: “(My ambition is) to play as many games as possible and to help Manchester City the best I can to be champions of England.”
