Prime Minister Joseph Muscat this evening spoke about the difficult situation being faced by neighbours in Syria, Libya and Gaza during a meeting with the Muslim community at the party’s headquarters in Hamrun, held to celebrate Iftar, the breaking of the fast.

Dr Muscat also reiterated that the government was working for the release of the Maltese worker who was abducted in Libya as soon as possible and said that while he could not guarantee that he was still alive, his latest information was that he was.

He said the government would continue to assist the school Mariam Al Batool and the process to integrate the Muslim community.

Imam Mohammed El Sadi said the Labour Party’s invitation reflected the good relations that existed between the Islamic community and the Labour Party. He recalled the assistance the Labour government led by the late Dom Mintoff had given for the mosque to be built and said the community had always found Dr Muscat willing to assist, including when he was leader of the Opposition.
