The number of job seekers continued to fall last month, according to National Statistics Office figures published yesterday.

Quoting the latest statistics supplied by the Employment and Training Corporation, there were 6,751 people registering to find a job last June, 390 fewer than the previous month.

Compared to a year earlier, the number of registered unemployed was down 528, or 7.3 per cent less than June 2013.

According to the figures, the overwhelming majority of job seekers were men over 45.

There was also an increase in the number of jobseekers who have been trying to find work for more than a year – reaching 3,189.

In a statement, the government welcomed the latest results saying that they confirmed its successful economic policies.

The government said that June marked the fifth consecutive month in which unemployment totals dropped.
