There were 6,751 registering for work last month with the Employment and Training Corporation last month compared to 7,279 in the same month last year.

The National Statistics Office said decreases were recorded among all age-groups with the most significant being among those aged 45 and over.

An increase of 261 persons was recorded among those who had been registering for more than one year. The number of people registering for less than 21 weeks dropped by 528.

The registered unemployed rate in February stood at 4.6 per cent of the labour supply, excluding part-time employment, and varied from 5.4 per cent among men to 3.2 per cent among women.
