Manchester City wrapped up their 2012/13 Premier League campaign with 66 goals scored but improved their tally significantly last season as the Citizens hit a staggering 102 goals on their way to winning the major English championship.
The title was Manchester City’s second in three years.
In 2012, they scored 93 goals en route to claiming their first Premier League title.
Another club that passed the century mark in the goals-for column last season were Liverpool, the league runners-up. The Reds had 101 goals, 30 more than third-placed Chelsea.
The last time Manchester City were the top-scoring side in English football was in 2002.
On that occasion, they were champions of Division One, the second grade of the English football ladder, and had an average of 2.35 goals per game.
City’s 102 goals last season were attained as follows:
Seven goals − once. Six − twice. Five − twice. Four − six times. Three − eight times. Two − ten times. One − five times.
City’s leading scorers were:
20 goals − Yaya Toure.
17 − Sergio Aguero.
16 − Edin Dzeko.
9 − Alvaro Negredo.
In all, 380 matches were played last season, resulting in 179 home victories, 123 away wins and 78 draws.
From the total of 1,052 goals scored, 598 went to the home sides and 454 for the away teams.
The number of goals in general, 14 down on the previous campaign, adds to an average 2.77 goals per match.
