The Maltese U-18 girls team are through to the semi-finals of the Euro Championship (Division C) after two wins from two matches in the qualifying phase of the tournament, currently being played in Andorra.

Malta started in style following a 54-42 win over Gibraltar on Tuesday during which Maddison Borg had 18 points and Julia Xerri 11 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.

Andorra were up next for Sandro Farrugia’s girls but despite enjoying home advantage the holders found the going tough and lost to Malta 52-39.

Iona Agius potted 13 points yesterday with Borg adding up with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Xerri had six points and 14 rebounds against Andorra.

In Group B, Cyprus are favourites to reach the last four automatically after a clear 74-30 win over direct contenders Monaco. The semi-finals will be played on Saturday.
