Boxing: Tyson Fury faces a long wait to discover when he can fight Dereck Chisora in a final eliminator for the WBO world title after his opponent was forced out of their Manchester showdown. After Chisora fractured his hand during a sparring session ahead of Saturday night’s scheduled bout, the fight’s promoters announced they were looking for a new date. Chisora’s European heavyweight title and the vacant British belt were both at stake.

Cricket: England wicketkeeper Matt Prior is taking a break from the game for the rest of the domestic season following the 95-run defeat by India in the second test at Lord’s on Monday. Prior, under pressure for his place after a poor run of form with the gloves and the bat, has not retired from international cricket but at the age of 32 and with ongoing injury problems his future must be in serious doubt. “I’m not doing justice to myself and more importantly the team and that is what matters first and foremost,” Prior said. He has played 79 tests since making his debut in 2007, scoring more than 4,000 runs including seven centuries at an average of 40.18.

Cycling: Olympic cycling champion Bradley Wiggins plans to concentrate on the team pursuit event in the velodrome and will not ride in any road races at the Commonwealth Games starting in Glasgow tomorrow. The 34-year-old told reporters yesterday he was tempted to take part in a wider range of races but wanted to focus on the track in preparation for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

Tennis: Russian tennis player Maria Kirilenko has called off her engagement to Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin, R-Sport said, as another high-profile sporting romance hit the rocks. Just two months after newly-crowned British Open champion Rory McIlroy and Danish tennis star Caroline Wozniacki called it quits, Ovechkin, a three-time National Hockey League MVP, and Kirilenko have also split. Kirilenko, winner of six WTA singles titles, and Ovechkin met in 2011 and were engaged in 2012. Perhaps things will look up professionally for each of them, as McIlroy went on to lift the Claret Jug at Hoylake for his third major championship triumph, while Wozniacki claimed the winner’s trophy in the Istanbul tournament on Sunday.

Shooting: Commonwealth Games shooting gold medallist Nur Ayuni Farhana Abdul Halim has been ruled out of competing in Glasgow after her competition jacket was lost en route to Scotland. Malaysian Ayuni, who won the gold medal with Nur Suryani Taibi in the 10m air rifle pairs in New Delhi four years ago, was due to compete in the 10 metre air rifle and 50m rifle prone events. Team manager Musa Omar said he was left with no choice but to withdraw Ayuni from competition. Omar said: “The rules clearly state that a rifle shooter must wear a jacket. We tried to borrow one but it did not fit her. We tried to make a new one but she said that she would need two months to get used to it.”
