Kevin Moore will be Malta’s flagbearer at tonight’s 2014 Commonwealth Games opening ceremony.

The 23-year-old will be leading the Maltese Olympic Committee contingent at the march past inside the legendary Celtic Park, in Glasgow, today.

Moore will be making his first showing at the Commonwealths. His selection was not much of a surprise given the excellent results achieved by the sprinter this season.

In fact, he has now established himself as Malta’s leading sprinter after setting new national marks in the 100m and 200m races. In Glasgow, Moore will be taking part in the 200m race only.

Last month, he also became the first Maltese athlete to win an event in the European Team Championships, Division Three, held in Tbilisi, Georgia.

In 2010, shooter Rebecca Madyson was the country’s flagbearer in New Delhi, India.

Team Malta is composed of 27 athletes representing nine different disciplines and is spearheaded by MOC president Julian Pace Bonello and chef-de-mission Mark Cutajar.
