Notwithstanding his venerable age, Sammy Galea, who hails from Floriana, is still active as a composer of Maltese song. Last May, he participated in the 19th International Song Festival Ti Amo that is held every year in Romania.

This festival attracts a good number of participants from various European countries. This year’s event was held between May 19 and 25 and the participating countries were Albania, Belarus, Bulgaria, Georgia, Italy, Malta, Moldova, Rumania, Sweden, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey and Ukraine.

Galea composed the music of the song Unica, which represented Malta, while the lyrics were written by Joe Julian Farrugia. Unica was interpreted by Jade Marie Vella in the category for those under 14.

The Maltese entry, which was dedicated to all mothers, was voted first in its category.

The audience experienced moments of emotion as the Maltese song was being interpreted by the young singer.

This is the sixth time that a composition by Galea placed first in the international festival Ti Amo that is held in Romania.

I would like to congratulate him, as well as the writer of the lyrics and also the singer, for their success.
