The MSE share index trended higher for the fifth successive session as it gained 0.36 per cent during today’s trading session, despite the declining volumes with only €46,783 worth of shares changing hands today.

Bank of Valletta plc again registered an increase in its closing price with a further 1.1 per cent increase to regain the €2.12 level across five deals totalling 7,150 shares.

On the bond market, the Rizzo Farrugia MGS Index again marginally retreated to 1,059.036 points although Eurozone yields slipped back closer to the 1.15 per cent level.

Yesterday’s rebound in the benchmark 10-year German Bund yields was short-lived as demand for ‘safe-haven’ assets was once again spurred by the escalating conflict between Ukraine and Russia, which is leading to the imposition of further sanctions on Russia and similar retaliation from the latter. Markets are also concerned with the on-going fighting I the Gaza strip.

Tomorrow afternoon, the Treasury is expected to publish the prices of the new Malta Government Stock. It will be offering a total of €180 million across two stocks, namely, two per cent MGS 2020 (V) and 4.1 per cent MGS 2034 (I).

Subscriptions subsequently open on Monday and close on today week at 5pm.
