Rather than trying to shift the blame onto others by opening an inquiry, the government should assume responsibility for the Skola Sajf fiasco, the Nationalist Party said yesterday.

The popular State summer school programme was put on hold for one week the day before the service was meant to begin, due to “significant” staff shortages. More than 10,800 students had signed up for the service, which was merged with the popular Klabb 3-16.

In a statement the PN remarked how this was the second incident in which Education Minister Evarist Bartolo was trying to absolve himself of any responsibility. Last October the minister had blamed a senior civil servant following the announcement in a circular letter that O-level revision students would no longer receive a stipend, the PN said.

It added that, this time around, the ministry had been warned three weeks in advance that the decision to merge Skola Sajf with Klabb 3-16 would result in problems.

The PN reiterated that the Education Minister had to shoulder responsibility for his political decision.
