I did not know whether to laugh or cry on reading ‘Labour activist is to become judge today’. Is Wenzu Mintoff the only person to become judge from the political field? In 1983 a magistrate who had been appointed a few weeks earlier was seen at Paola’s PN club

The list is endless and in the early years of the 20th century a prime minister appointed himself judge and judges and magistrates were appointed from both sides of the political field but had a common element: they did their job well.

They did not boycott official functions at the Palace on Independence Day or March 31. They were no longer party representatives but representatives of the State. So I say good luck to Mr Justice Mintoff, whom I have known since 1971.
