Tottenham Hotspur kicked off their summer tour of the US and Canada with a 3-3 draw against Seattle Sounders at Century Link Field on Saturday.

In a game that saw three penalties, Spurs twice came from behind in Mauricio Pochettino’s first game in charge of the club as Spanish duo Roberto Soldado and Iago Falque scored from the spot having come on from the bench.

Lewis Holtby opened the scoring with a close-range header after 10 minutes but Gonzalo Pineda levelled from the spot before the break after a foul by Michael Dawson to bring the home side back into the game.

Spurs defender Kyle Naughton suffered a head injury as the first half wore on following a collision with Jalil Anibaba but managed to play on and see the first 45 minutes out.

Pochettino made six changes at half-time before goalkeeper Brad Friedel was beaten by a thunderbolt from Osvaldo Alonso as the Londoners fell behind for the first time in the match.

It was not long before Spurs were back level though as Soldado slotted a penalty home after he was bundled down by Chad Marshall.

Former Spurs star Clint Dempsey, who made the switch to the Sounders last year, received a cheer from both sets of fans as he was replaced with 20 minutes to go for Sean Okoli, who set up Tristan Bowen minutes later as Seattle went in front again.

Seconds later down at the other end, DeAndre Yedlin was penalised for handball in the box and Falque made no mistake with the resulting penalty to make it 3-3.

Next up for Tottenham is Toronto on Wednesday where they will come up against Jermain Defoe.
