Marek Hamsik is buoyed by Napoli’s acquisition of Michu and Kalidou Koulibaly and said that his club can challenge for the honours next season.

The Napoli skipper has made no secret of his lofty ambitions for the 2014-15 season.

“We want to do better than last year,” Hamsik, who helped Napoli win the Coppa Italia, said.

“Our targets are the league, Coppa Italia and go as far as possible in the Champions League.

“I believe that we have what it takes to achieve these objectives. It’s true that at times individual players can make the difference, but positive results can only be achieved with a collective effort.”

Hamsik said that the arrival of Michu and Koulibaly has had a galvanising effect on the team.

“Koulibaly is a very imposing defender while Michu is a prolific scorer who will give us a new dimension upfront.”

Hamsik endured a disappointing 2013-14 campaign, managing only six goals in a campaign which saw him struggle with injuries.

“I’m determined to play a leading role for Napoli next season,” he said.

“Juventus and Roma had an extraordinary season last term, but we were not inferior to them. We just lacked a little consistency, especially in January.”

Juve have dominated Serie A for the past three seasons, but following Antonio Conte’s sudden departure and the arrival of Massimiliano Allegri, the situation could well change.

“Juventus will not be the same team,” Hamsik said.

“Roma have also brought in some good additions but it remains to be seen how they will cope having also to play in the Champions League.

“Juve are still the favourites and I expect a much stronger challenge from the two Milan clubs but we will be there with them to vie for the honours.”
