I am not surprised that the German authorities recently took the law in their own hands and abducted two children, thus flouting the care order issued by the Maltese authorities. The French authorities in another case did the same thing in the sense that they declared blindly that they will not consider the decisions of the Maltese authorities.

I am not surprised because these countries protect their nationals and the children of their nationals, whereas in Malta the Foundation for Social Welfare Services and the director for Social Welfare Services tend to adopt the colonial attitude and shiver at the request of any foreign authority, thus tending to protect foreigners rather than children of a Maltese parent or parents.

Maltese taxpayers’ money in the case of the central authority of Malta is being paid to scold the Maltese and not to protect them. All this is supposed to be regulated by the EU regulation known as Brussels II.

It is about time the Maltese authorities issue the report it was obliged to submit to the European Commission by the end of 2012 on whether Brussels II is meeting its goals and that they change the attitude of protecting foreign nationals instead of our own.
