Several activities were held last Tuesday in Gozo to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the establishment of the Malta police force.

A Mass celebrated by the Gozo police chaplain Emanuel Curmi at Santa Marija cemetery chapel was attended by police acting commissioner Ray Zammit, police officers, representatives of police organisations and relatives.

This was followed by the blessing of police graves and laying of wreaths. The celebration ended with the sounding of the last post and a minute of silence.

Zammit later unveiled a commemorative plaque in the main police station at Victoria. A social activity was held at Marsalforn Bay with the participation of the police band.

Also present for these activities were 18 Gozitan police recruits who are currently undertaking training in Malta.
