Brooks Brothers has landed in Malta. This icon of clothing, the oldest retail company of its kind in the US, is now going to be firmly placed on one of Valletta’s most prominent street corners. The brand is being introduced to Malta by the Halmann Vella Group, which has been successfully managing a retail arm for the past eight years.

With the introduction of Brooks Brothers, Halmann is moving into novel territory, with a unique and emblematic brand that has achieved international stature thanks to its respect for style, quality, elegance and tradition.

Brooks Brothers is located at 243, Republic Street, Valletta, next to Valletta’s most prestigious coffee shop on Republic Square.

This corner building is centuries old, has a strong association to retail and quality menswear and was partly yet severely damaged during World War II. In the immediate postwar period, it was rebuilt with scant respect for its original style and decor.

In their revamp of this old building, Halmann have restored many of its unique features, revamping archways and reinventing varied old-style touches. Its interior is complemented with old English-style oak furnishings and traditional brass fittings.

Brand manager Fiona Vella said: “The shop will be one of the latest Brooks Brothers flagship stores to be launched around Europe and will be opening soon after other similar stores in Rome and in Monte Carlo. We are proud to promote the brand in Malta. Valletta daily welcomes an assortment of cosmopolitan nationals and foreign visitors who will be enticed to see what Brooks Brothers has to offer.

“Halmann values the importance of our capital city and the way it is slowly but surely achieving even grander stature especially in the run-up to V18. With the presence of such an important brand, quality retail will be going up a notch.”

Brooks Brothers will be introduced to Malta via an extensive menswear line and a somewhat smaller female line. The clothing will include formal and informal wear and will be complemented by a full range of varied accessories including footwear.

“Brooks Brothers is especially strong on made-to-measure tailoring service and that is one service we shall be incorporating in our store,” Vella said. “Our staff will be fully trained by Brooks Brothers personnel who will be regularly re-visiting us to oversee that we are in line with Brooks Brothers’ stringent quality measures.”

It is just such stringent quality measures which have made Brooks Brothers into an icon. The brand started on April 7, 1818, when Henry Sands Brooks opened a clothing emporium in New York City.

Its mission statement created by Brooks himself promises to sell best quality at a fair profit to people who seek and appreciate such merchandise.

Its logo, symbolising a golden fleece, firmly associates with the Order of the Golden Fleece, a knighthood that was highly appreciated also for its elegant and colourful dress code.

Brooks Brothers says it is proud to have dressed the majority of US presidents, a good handful of Hollywood heart-throbs, including Rudolph Valentino and iconic international personalities such as Gianni Agnelli and Andy Warhol.
