Q: Nearly three months ago I bought a dress for my daughter’s wedding. As the wedding date was getting nearer, I took out the dress to try it on with the shoes. To my disappointment I noticed that the dress, which is heavily beaded, had large gaps of missing beads. Since I had not even worn the dress, the beads must have fallen off because they were not sewn on properly.

Can I ask the seller to fix the dress and make it suitable to wear? If yes, how much time should I allow the seller to repair the dress? And where do I stand if the sewing is not to my satisfaction?

A: If the beads started falling off the dress because they were not sewn on properly, legally you may ask the seller to either fix the problem or replace the dress with a new one. If such replacement is not possible, then you may ask for a refund.

Regarding the amount of time you should allow the seller to sew the dress, it should obviously be ready for the occasion you need it. Since the wedding date is getting close, the dress should be returned to you as soon as possible so that you have enough time to check it out, and if it is not adequate you may then ask the seller to refund you the money paid for the dress.
