The Malta women’s national team, coached by Angela Adamoli, yesterday beat Scotland 66-59 to wrap up their commitments in this year’s championship for small states on a positive note after finishing third in the final classification.

The match, in St Polten, Austria, was evenly balanced with Scotland starting the last quarter 45-40 ahead. However, the Maltese hit back strongly with Josephine Grima (top scorer with 23 points) potting crucial baskets for the team to emerge winners.

On Friday, Malta were beaten 58-46 by hosts Austria in the semi-finals. Seven teams took part in the tournament.
