A two-day jazz bash featuring established and up-and-coming names is being organised in collaboration with Jazz on the Fringe.

The event will feature two different trios on each day, with F Trio’s Manuel Pulis and Alan Portelli being a common presence in both.

Originally started as, in the band members’ words, a “mess-around band” to implement what they were studying in a real-action situation, F Trio has Pulis on drums, Portelli on bass and Warren Galea on guitar.

F Trio had to take a bit of a back seatwhen Pulis moved to Siena, Italy, to further his studies and Portelli moved to Copenhagen.

But with the musicians’ return to Malta for the summer, a number of gigs have been organised, with the second edition of The 2 Day Jazz Bash coming up next on the calendar.

The first day of the mini-festival will feature F Trio, while on the second day Portelli and Pulis will be joined by Dominic Galea on piano.

“Judging by the first edition, the audience can expect electrifying energy, swinging bands and popping bottle caps. All the ingredients for a good night out,” Pulis says with a grin.

The 2 Day Jazz Bash takes place on Friday and Saturday at Django Jazz Bar, Valletta.
