Stanley Clews (July 12) appears to be misinformed about TVM news’ audiences. The latest independent surveys confirm that TVM news has increased not decreased in viewership.

Mr Clews is also incorrect to imply that TVM concealed Police Commissioner Peter Paul Zammit’s resignation. It is standard practice for TVM not to broadcast speculations but endeavour to confirm any bit of information before airing it as news. It is this practice which maintains TVM news’ excellent levels of credibility.

Mr Zammit’s resignation was reported on TVM news before the coverage of the Police Parade on July 4 as mentioned by Mr Clews. The resignation was given prominence on TVM news on July 3 and on our web portal www.tvm.com.mt from 6pm onwards, less than 15 minutes after TVM confirmed with Mr Zammit himself that he was not keeping his post.

Reports of Mr Zammit’s resignation were also carried following an official statement from the Department of Information and also following the debate on the matter in Parliament.
