Air Malta has decided to avoid Ukrainian air space as a precaution after a Malaysian airliner was brought down yesterday, killing all 298 people on board.

A spokesman for the national airline said that Air Malta never flew over the eastern part of Ukraine as its flight to Moscow passed over the west. However, as a precaution, Air Malta would be completely avoiding Ukrainian air space.

This will mean that the flight to Moscow will become about 15 minutes longer, the spokesman said.
