The Dragonara peninsula will undergo a multimillion euro extension development and restoration project, the management of the Dragonara Casino announced.

Casino managing director Johann Schembri was speaking during celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the Dragonara.

The plan includes restoring the palace, the surrounding fortifications and main gate, the embellishment and landscaping of the surrounding grounds, including the main avenue, and the reconstruction of some architectural features lost over the years.

The project will include the reconstruction of the building at the north tip of the peninsula known as Dragonara Point. This will accommodate an international poker venue, a casino extension and a sports book.

The project will include private suites for international high rollers and a club to be run by an international franchise. There will also be an underground parking facility of 250 spaces.

The Dragonara Casino opened its doors in 1964. Dragonara Gaming Limited, a fully-owned Maltese company, took over in June 2010.

Meanwhile, the casino has pledged €10,000 to the Responsible Gaming Foundation in aid of educational campaigns addressed at problem gamblers and the public.
