Athletics: Double Olympic and world champion Mo Farah confirmed he will be fit to take part in this month’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after recovering from abdominal pains. The 31-year-old, who is due to represent England in the 5,000m and 10,000m, pulled out of last weekend’s Diamond League meeting in Glasgow because of illness. Farah was admitted to hospital in the United States with abdominal pains at the start of the month but after coming through a series of medical tests, he was given the all-clear to resume training. “Training is going good! Next stop Commonwealth Games,” Farah tweeted yesterday from his Pyrenean training base in Font Romeu.

Rugby Union: All Blacks centre Ma’a Nonu will resume his Super Rugby career with the Wellington Hurricanes next season, three years after being ordered to pack his bags by coach Mark Hammett. The 32-year-old has signed a one-year deal to return to New Zealand’s capital under incoming coach Chris Boyd, with Hammett heading overseas to coach in Wales. Nonu heads home after a second season with the Auckland Blues following an unsuccessful one-year stint with the Otago Highlanders in 2013.

Doping: Welsh 800 metre runner Gareth Warburton will miss the Commonwealth Games after being suspended from all competition following a doping violation, UK Athletics said yesterday. The 31-year-old Warburton, who was part of Team GB at the London 2012 Olympic Games, has the opportunity to respond to the charges and can also have them determined at a full hearing before the National Anti-Doping Panel. “The news of this anti-doping rule violation has come as a great shock to me,” Warburton said in a statement. “From the outset, I would like to state that I have not knowingly taken any banned substance.”

Basket, NBA: Dwyane Wade is staying on with the Miami Heat as the face of the franchise after agreeing a new contract while the NBA team picks up the pieces following the loss of free agent LeBron James last week. “Home Is Where The Heart Is... My Home,My City,My House..#HeatLifer,” Wade posted on Instagram in a social media teaser before the Heat finally made it official. “Dwyane has been the franchise cornerstone for this team since the day he arrived 11 years ago,” Heat president Pat Riley said.
