A high-school class ring which vanished more than 40 years ago has been reunited with its New York owner - after it turned up on a Greek island.

Stan Ostapiak gave it to his wife in 1962 after they graduated from Seward Park High School and it was stolen when her purse was snatched ten years later on the night they were married.

However, Vasilis Polykretis came across the engraved ring in his late father's belongings on the island of Naxos this month and, after some internet research, was able to send it by registered post to Mr Ostipiak in Staten Island. No-one knows how the ring ended up in Greece.
