Swieqi residents have in general appreciated the fact that, at long last, Swieqi has its own police station. It is, however, totally useless if it is not run professionally by today’s standards; the one we have, unfortunately, does not seem to be.

I needed to urgently report something to the police and decided to pop over at 11.30 on a recent morning to report an unauthorised entry by some third party/ies in the Ibraġ area. The place was closed.

I decided to phone the given landline, 2137 8166, and heard the phone ring from outside the station. Nobody answered. But should the phone system not provide for an automatic transfer to, say, St Julian’s or police HQ when this situation arises? If the said station is not operational 24/7, why not at least post a notice indicating the opening hours where to report when closed?

It would be most useful if the local council reported this to the minister and to police HQ. It is a mockery to us Swieqi residents and we shall not accept it sitting down!

The minister and the police commissioner must run the place as it should be run and provide the service that we require since we pay our taxes and we need better security.

Swieqi does not need a police station that is closed when one requires its services.
