As a resident of St Julian’s, I am concerned about the pedestrian and traffic hazards created at Ivo Muscat Azzopardi Street, corner with St George’s Road, leading to Mikiel Anton Vassalli Street, better known as Regional Road.

On a number of occasions, I have reported to our local police station the illegal parking taking place on the corner of the main road, that is, St George’s Road, and Ivo Muscat Azzopardi Street leading to The Gardens.

Within this 10-metre stretch, motorists seem to claim a right to park regardless of the double yellow line and of blocking the pavement, creating inconvenience to pedestrians. Note that this is an ongoing situation and a case of illegal parking on a daily basis.

The Maltese take pride in calling themselves a civilised European country, however, such behaviour from the local population and lack of enforcement by the local authorities leave me in serious doubts as to whether this is the case.

Can anybody in his right mind justify this or is it a case of accepting it and saying ‘that’s Malta’?
