I agree with Ian’s Grech letter about the Church’s voice being loud enough. Moves made by the Church regarding the issues of divorce and civil unions reminded me of actions that had been taken during the interdiction in the 1960s.

Just imagine people going to confession being asked about their opinion regarding divorce and if they say they agree absolution is withheld. And they say they are aiming for a spiritual renewal.

I go to church frequently but on several occasions I was about to leave when the priest mentioned divorce even though the gospel spoke of something else. Some even asked me why I belonged to two religious movements when I was not ready to “listen to the truth”.

One could not watch a religious programme without listening to anti-divorce propaganda. When that year I went to Our Lady of Sorrows procession at Rabat, which I hardly ever miss, I was disgusted because of a lot of words were said against divorce, which left me and several others no alternative but to leave early. The other day, I went to the grocer and many were complaining about similar things happening in other villages.

After hearing all this, are there still people claiming the Church’s voice is not loud enough?
