As a frequent visitor to Malta, I read with interest the story (July 11) about the unfortunate three-year-old girl who was injured after falling from a walkway not protected by railings while visiting the Splash and Fun Park in Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq.

I was at this park a couple of days ago with my fiancée and her two children. A very nice afternoon that was only marred when one of the children cut her foot quite deeply after slipping on the toilet floor. There was bleeding and the need for some medical attention, even if only for plasters.

First of all, the signposts for the clinic are inadequate – I had to ask several staff members for help before I located it. However to call it a clinic is not really correct.

I was shocked by its basic form and by what was essentially a room with a chair, bed and metal cabinet (virtually empty). Even more concerning was the lack of proper medical supplies, the most basic items like waterproof dressings and antiseptic to cleanse a wound.

It concerns me that with so many visitors to the park each day, this level of provision is unacceptable and I’m interested to know if any outside body has checked these facilities and if they are suitable for the size of the park and number of visitors it caters for.
