Fiorentina are looking to strengthen their forward line with the signing of Gonzalo Bergessio, 29, from Catania.

The Argentine striker has been playing for Catania since 2011 and scored 37 goals in 113 matches for the Sicilians who were demoted to Serie B last season.

Bergessio has already made it official that he does not intend to play outside the Serie A next season and told the club he is seeking a move.

Fiorentina had already tried to sign Bergessio in January as a replacement for Giuseppe Rossi during his injury lay-off but failed to conclude the deal.

Man. City in talks for defender Mangala

Manchester City are in advanced talks with Porto to sign France defender Eliaquim Mangala, the BBC reported yesterday.

The English champions are looking to seal the deal this week for the 23-year-old and the transfer fee is reported to be in the region of £32 million.

Mangala was in the French squad at the World Cup in Brazil but did not feature in any of their five games.

If the deal goes through, he would be City’s fourth signing after midfielder Fernando joined from Porto for £12m. Goalkeeper Willy Caballero moved from Malaga for £4.4m while former Arsenal right-back Bacary Sagna was signed on a free transfer.

Vucinic settled at new club Al Jazira

Mirko Vucinic was presented to the media in Abu Dhabi yesterday following his move from Juventus to Al Jazira after signing a two-year contract.

Vucinic, 30, said he was looking forward to his new experience in the Arabian Gulf League.

“It is a new experience and a different mentality playing in a new championship,” the Montenegro striker told reporters.

“I’m looking forward to giving the best to my new club and helping them win trophies. I was given a warm welcome from the management and everyone here has treated me very well.

“The players and the technical staff have been very friendly. I already feel at home.”

Cabella arrives in Newcastle

France international Remy Cabella has arrived on Tyneside as Newcastle attempt to push home their long-standing interest in the player.

Press Association reported the Montpellier midfielder was in the city yesterday after it emerged that the two clubs were close to reaching agreement over his transfer.

Manager Alan Pardew will hope for a positive result after Cabella cut short his holiday to travel to England. He would become the club’s fourth summer signing after Siem de Jong, Jack Colback and Ayoze Perez, but perhaps the most eagerly-anticipated to date.

Cagliari swoop for Brescia goalkeeper

Young keeper Alessio Cragno will be donning the Cagliari shirt in future after his transfer from Serie B club Brescia was made official yesterday.

Cragno, 20, was outstanding for Brescia last season but his performances were not enough to help the team challenge for a place in the play-offs.

Cagliari said Cragno arrives on a permanent transfer as new coach Zdenek Zeman is likely to focus on youth talent next season. He has already signed Lorenzo Crisetig and Samuele Longo from Inter.

Cagliari have also secured the signature of young Caio Rangel from Flamengo. Caio is a former Brazil U-17 international.

New arrivals at Cellino’s Leeds Utd

Leeds United have announced the double signing of midfielder Tommaso Bianchi and striker Souleymane Doukara.

The duo’s arrival takes president Massimo Cellino’s summer signing spree to four following the captures of goalkeeping pair Marco Silvestri and Stuart Taylor.

Cellino has been making waves ever since his arrival at Elland Road in January and, after selling captain Ross McCormack to Fulham for a fee understood to be £11m, is now building a squad for new coach Dave Hockaday to select from.

Bianchi has signed a four-year deal with Leeds from Sassuolo as Senegalese striker Doukara joins after a season with Juve Stabia.

Suarez excites Barcelona president

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu is excited by the prospect of Luis Suarez joining his star-studded squad.

Suarez will join Barcelona officially this week after terms were agreed with Liverpool on a deal reported to be worth £75m to the Premier League club.

The Uruguay striker will join Lionel Messi and Neymar in an attacking line-up most teams could only ever dream of, although he will miss the start of the season because of the four-month worldwide ban.

“It is incredible to have these three players in the same club,” Bartomeu said.

“It’s something fantastic and unusual. It’s unusual in the world of football to have three top players plus Iniesta, Busquets, Pique, Mascherano and the young ones that are coming – it’s incredible to have this team.”
