I would like to congratulate the organisers of the Wirt iż-Żejtun Symposium 2014 which dealt with the Turks’ last incursion in Żejtun in 1614.

The event was well organised and the speakers presented different aspect on the same subjects. The information presented by seasoned speakers and researchers such as Prof. Stanley Fiorini, Anton Bugeja and Stephen Spiteri were well received as were papers presented by the young Giulia Privitelli, Fiona Vella and Godwin Vella.

Similarly, the paper presented on behalf of Sandro Debono who could not be present on the day and which featured art and patronage related to the Turkish attack was very instructive.

Once again well done to the organisers and I do hope that more local heritage societies emulate and organise similar events.

This well attended event shows that there is scope to promote heritage not only to the usual crowd that attend such events but also to the public.
