The Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology has signed a memorandum of understanding with business intelligence and customer experience management company iMovo.

Under the agreement both parties will set up an educational partnership to promote the skills and concepts of analytics, business intelligence and big data – all areas that have been recognised as emerging trends in information and communication technology.

The agreement aims to address the growing demand for skills in these areas by providing Mcast students and staff access to Tableau a leading analytics technology developed by global business intelligence and analytics software provider Tableau Software.

iMovo managing director Pierre Mallia said: “Analytics has become central to the way leading organisations plan nowadays.

“In years gone by, analytics was the preserve of large organisations. However, this is changing and today we see small organisations using data discovery tools like Tableau and QlikView.

“Our industry is being faced with a significant shortage of personnel skilled in analytics and this is exacerbated by the absence of specialised formal educational programmes to address this skill shortage locally. We hope this partnership will help Mcast realise this potential and generate graduates in this sphere.”

Silvio De Bono, president of the Mcast board of governors thanked iMovo for choosing to collaborate with Mcast. He said the college is continuously working closely with industry to ensure that all courses offered are relevant to their needs.

He added that “iMovo’s contribution to the committees that have been set up to evaluate the content of the courses will ensure that the ICT courses are kept up-to-date with the new industry trends”.

He stressed that the college’s doors were always open to industry for the benefit of students.
