The University’s Confucius Institute, set up in 2009, offers diploma and the BA (Hons) programmes in Chinese through the University’s Department of Oriental Studies, and over the past five years 194 students have taken up the option of studying Chinese at University as part of the Degree Plus programme.

The two-year evening part-time diploma course in Chinese has been offered twice, and two students have successfully completed the institute’s BA (Hons) degree in Chinese. Hanban, the headquarters of the Confucius institutes in Beijing, has awarded one of these students, Aida Daoud Bushra, a full scholarship to pursue her MA studies in the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language at Xiamen University in China.

As from October, a Maltese national will also be delivering an optional course on Maltese history, language and culture to students at the Beijing Foreign Studies University in Beijing.
