Exuberant, extravagant, powerful and monumental are the epithets that immediately come to mind when confronted by Reaching to the Sky, a collection of works by Ray Piscopo.

The horror vacu has disappeared as if by magic and, instead, there is instead a feeling of complete fulfilment, a sentiment of joie de vivre, of irrepressible joy and overwhelming pleasure.

The feeling results from the vibrant and colourful display of chromatic colours and dynamic movement: a personal and intimate interpretation of a language coming out from the heart and mind like an irresistible torrent of raging waters, a river that has broken its banks.

Discipline, order, rationality and structure are vital for the artist

This overflowing effect is as powerful as it is contained. There is order in such madness, there is rationality in such magic, there is enigma in such structure. Discipline, order, rationality and structure are vital for the artist to generate stability in such chaos of the creative and inspired expression, to sublimate even for a little his exuberance and extravagance.

Perhaps the best work is an explosive abstract, Flame of Passion, so dynamic in movement and eloquent in the balance and unity of its passionate colours. Powerful is the artist’s interpretation of Picasso’s Les Demoiselle d’Avignon.

A passionate, intimate and felt expression that transcends boundaries, a catharsis that leaves its mark, that educates and changes to stimulate growth. Change is this time/space continuum that liberates man or crucifies him.

Reaching to the Sky runs at Level Zero, Skyparks Business Centre until September 12.
