Hard Rock Cafe Malta joins the rest of the world celebrating the highly-anticipated World Cup 2014 final today, by screening the match live complete with half-time entertainment, live DJs and giveaways, as well as food and bar service until the early hours. The screening is made possible thanks to Hard Rock’s partnership with Budweiser, an official Fifa World Cup sponsor.

All Hard Rock locations in Malta – in Bay Street Complex, Valletta Waterfront and at the Malta International Airport (depar-tures lounge) – will be screening the game.

Hard Rock has screened all football matches during this year’s World Cup games, collaborating with the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector to raise funds in aid of Moviment Missjunarju Gesu fil Proxxmu and their latest project in Nossa Senhroa das Gracas , Sao Luis, Brazil.

Since 1971, Hard Rock has been committed to a wide range of philanthropic causes and activities around the world. As they’ve done throughout the whole World Cup, Hard Rock team members will be asking fans to round up their bill to the nearest euro amount or more, with the proceeds going towards this worthy cause.

Hard Rock will be adding an additional 15 per cent from the sale of a limited edition, Brazilian themed, Hard Rock T-shirt available at their stores.

The Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector, whose objectives include the stimulation of cooperation and networking among voluntary organisations and with private companies in order to support all voluntary organisations in Malta and Gozo, is supporting this initiative.

A call for potential projects was issued earlier this year. The project chosen was that of Moviment Missjunarju Gesu fil-Proxxmu as it was the one which met most the set criteria.

Fr George Grima, from Moviment Missjunarju Gesu fil-Proxxmu, said that in Sao Luis, Brazil, there are still numerous cases of leprosy. The city hosts a specialised hospital, but families of these patients need attention and the movement provides shelter to young children at their crèche Nossa Senhora das Gracas.

The crèche was built some years ago but with the ever-increasing need to welcome more kids, they have decided to act quickly and build another class. Thirty-five per cent of the funds needed have been raised so far.
