Why do some people need to destroy a palm tree that does not belong to them? The photo shows that the bottom part of the tree is black as though it had been set on fire.

That is not the case however. Something has evidently been poured onto it with the purpose of killing the roots so that the tree will eventually die.

Yet, palm trees are a protected species and have been so ever since the red weevil disease destroyed a great many of them.

After various unsuccessful attempts to have that palm tree removed, some people have decided to now take the law in their own hands. Can they not busy themselves with something more constructive?

What a negative image such people are giving of the Maltese! When we tell our friends and visitors about such behaviour they cannot believe it. Yet, it is sadly true and some have even experienced such behaviour.

When promoting tourism, maybe that side of life here should be addressed as well. Or is it, perhaps, that such people are just an exception?
